In June 2025, something big happened - thousands of ad accounts on Facebook and Instagram just stopped working. Meta, the company behind these platforms, said it was just enforcing the rules. But people in the industry called it a "Ban Wave".
When you look at the teams that were affected, you can see that they had one major thing in common: nobody was keeping a close eye on what was going on.
This wasn't just a case of bad luck, and it's not something that happens only once in a while. The thing is, summer is a time when there are fewer people around to cover things, but the pace of work doesn't slow down to match.
When someone's away on vacation or takes a while to get back to you, and an account that's been flagged just sits there for too long, it can end up getting banned. The thing is, online platforms are always up and running, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
But teams, on the other hand, have limited hours and can't keep up with that pace. And that's exactly where the issues start to creep in.
Things didn't slow down for platform moderation in July. In fact, big companies like Meta and Google started using artificial intelligence to help enforce their rules back in 2025. This means that when someone breaks the rules, the system can flag it really quickly - often in just a few hours, instead of taking days like it used to.
And the best part is, it can do all this with less human intervention, making the whole process a lot faster and more efficient.
Things have changed a lot, and teams are having a hard time keeping up.
It's not just about dealing with bad ads or stuff that's not allowed anymore. Now, there are a lot of other things that can trigger alarms, like sudden big jumps in budget, changing campaigns all the time, old billing info, and weird login patterns.
These things don't seem like they're obviously wrong, and that's what makes them so tricky for teams to handle. They can sneak up on you and catch you off guard.
When a small team is left without backup for a couple of weeks, things can quickly go off track. The opportunity to catch and fix problems slips away fast. By the time someone returns from vacation and checks in on things, the harm is already done, and it's too late to undo it.
We're always thinking about this. Our Senior Affiliate Manager, Tetiana, sums it up nicely: "During the summer, a lot of teams tend to slow down. But we don't. We use automation to keep an eye on things, and we also have a real person watching over everything. That combination is what helps our partners' campaigns run smoothly, without any unexpected issues."
That's the way it works best - using automation to monitor things and human judgment to make decisions. If you only have one or the other, you'll end up with gaps, and those gaps can be really costly, especially during the summer months.
The good news is that a lot of these issues can be avoided. So, before your team has to scale back, take a look at this checklist and see what you can do to prevent problems.
1. Someone is responsible for checking the account health every single day, even on holidays, not just once a week.
2. When an issue gets flagged, it doesn't just sit in some inbox waiting for someone to check it whenever they feel like it. Instead, there's a real escalation process in place with clear, defined steps that are followed every time. And the best part is, there's a specific person who's actually responsible for making sure everything gets taken care of.
3. Before a campaign is launched, it's thoroughly reviewed to make sure it meets all the requirements. If a campaign is rejected, fixing it can be time-consuming, and in a busy month like August, you might not have the luxury of waiting. It's better to get everything right from the start to avoid delays.
4. Make sure your payment methods and billing details are up to date. It's a simple thing, but having old billing information can cause more problems than a bad ad. So, take a look at it now, before something goes wrong.
5. When you're working with a smaller team, it's best to avoid making big changes to your budget or switching up your campaigns too often. These kinds of moves can trigger alarms under AI moderation, and honestly, they're just not worth the risk, especially when your team is already moving a bit slower than usual.
6. You need to have at least one person who can access everything and make decisions quickly, no matter what time it is. It's not a good idea for everyone on the team to be away at the same time, because something might go wrong and you'll need someone to fix it right away. Having someone available all the time means you can respond fast to any problems that come up. This way, you can make sure everything runs smoothly, and you don't miss anything important.
Automation helps. Clean processes help more. The accounts that survived June 2025 were not necessarily running better campaigns. They were running better operations, with clearer responsibilities and fewer single points of failure.
